SUV Rolls Over, Traps Driver in Mast Boulevard Accident

The accident that happened Friday sent one person to the hospital.

A single-vehicle roll-over occurred on Mast Boulevard in Santee Friday afternoon that required a rescue unit to respond to free the trapped driver.

The accident happened at about 12:20 p.m. across from West Hills High School. The driver had to be freed from the car using the "jaws of life," said police. One lane of traffic was closed for about an hour.

The driver was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, the extent of injuries wasn't revealed by the Sheriff's Department.

Santee patch needs to give more details. How did it happen and who was driving? That's what a real reporter would post. If you report the news then do it right

wow, look at that picture of physical fitness

Someone seriously needs to proofread this stuff. After the headline, the lead in is this: "The driver that happened Friday sent one person to the hospital." "The driver that happened"?? A driver happened? Was anyone present to witness the happening of the driver? Maybe "The ACCIDENT" that happened..."? This happens quite often...

I really appreciate the Patch, it is not perfect but you get news you would never get in the S. D. Union. Guess no one HAS to read it.

I agree, before Santee patch we wouldn't get so much Santee news so fast, if at all. If it's not perfectly reported it's still better than nothing!

I appreciate that Santee Patch gets the news out quickly, even before all details can be determined. Thanks for reporting!

How does someone roll a car doing 25mph - which is the posted for that area
Char January 19, 2013 at 08:52 PM
We are lucky to get any info on incidents (breaking news) here in Santee. I too am thankful that the Santee Patch provides this information. I hope that this wasn't drug or alcohol related; at that hour you wouldn't think so(but you never know). It could have been a medical issue (stroke/heart attack). I sure hope it wasn't talking on a phone or texting!

Excellent question, and the answer lies in the fact that this was an SUV with a high center of gravity. These dangerous vehicles have been proven in US government tests to roll over at relatively slow speeds, at which an ordinary coupe or sedan would just fishtail a bit. You can recover a skid and drive away from that. It's a basic physics lesson that this driver unfortunately learned the hard away.

wow. look at your sarcasm. At least that person is out there trying to help someone, regardless of his weight, shape or form. Just what are you doing right now that's comparable?
Gloria Gerak January 20, 2013 at 01:45 AM
Actually - the kids race up and down Mast all day long as speed faster than posted. It was 12:30 in the afternoon - come on!

Obviously, you never have heard "If you don't have something nice or positive to say, then don't say anything at all. I appreciate how quickly Patch reports, thank you Steven and Patch.
Tammy January 20, 2013 at 09:48 AM
It's 40, only 25 when children are present.
sluggo January 20, 2013 at 04:48 PM
Well, it's 40 mph except when the kids are 'present'. Lunch hour you'd expect them to be. Still, people go nuts you when you observe speed limits around town. Reminds me of George Carlin's hilarious observation.
Gloria Gerak January 21, 2013 at 12:03 AM
still hard to roll a vehicle at either of those speeds at 12:30 in the afternoon on a street across from a high school
Real Talk January 23, 2013 at 02:22 PM
SHE or He was probably texting & not paying attention, that's how you roll a car (crash your car) in a 25 or even a 40 mph zone....
