City Council Takes Care of Business Before the Holidays

A quick rundown on Wednesday's council meeting dealing with Marines, Sultans football, stop sign, speed limit, budget amendments, Mast Park and more.

Wednesday's City Council meeting began with recognition of "our fallen heroes lost in combat in Afghanistan. 'Darkhorse' 3rd Battalion 5th Marines have been engaged in heavy combat" and have lost 24 Marines; nine in just four days."

Next, Jack Dale presented certificates of award to all of the Varsity players on the  football team for . They lost a close  against defending champions Valley Center last week at Qualcomm Stadium.

The council voted 5-0 for the installation of a stop sign at the intersection of Allenwood Way and Beck Drive. Councilmember questioned the need for a stop sign just because one person asked for it.

The council approved (4-1) a Conditional Use Permit to allow Imported Motor Cars to expand it's business into selling a limited number of cars from their site at 11421 Woodside Ave. There will be no more than six cars for sale at any given time, and no "attention attracting" devices allowed.

The speed limit on Fanita Parkway was re-certified in order that the can legally enforce speed with radar. The speed limit was raised from 35 to 40 m.p.h. Councilmembers noted that they had no choice in the matter if the speed limit is to be enforced.

The  were approved with about $550,000 in reserve funds used.

In new business, the council recieved a report and presentatino on the plans for the . The report outlined what grants will/can be used to help pay for the project. It will be done in stages as funding is secured and could take up to seven years to complete.

There was also a bit of scheduled reorganization of the council hierarchy, as McNelis replaced as Vice Mayor. The position is switched on an annual basis.
