City Council gives direction in response to State’s action to kill redevelopment

The has given staff direction to resolve a caused by the .

More than 75% of the City’s $31 million budget goes to a workforce of 125. A deficit of $1.5 million cannot be filled without a reduction in personnel expenses. The City is therefore in the process of determining which positions can no longer be funded or must be funded at a reduced level. Also to be considered are future cost recovery measures such as increases to several fee schedules.

The City Council will formalize and ratify budget amendments aimed at eliminating the structural deficit at a future open session meeting.

At the risk of sounding stupid, ask the workforce of 125 to voluntarily submit a temporary reduction they can live without. No one wants to loose there job, but many are able to afford 25 cents or so per hour. After the volunteers come in, Look at cutting or reducing the positions of those who refused to participate. Just a thought.

Well Mark, you do sound stupid, I think cuts should be taken by Council and Upper Management, not the middle class staff.

Sometimes it's like reading comments from third graders on here. Check that, my daughters 3rd grade teacher would never allow some of the insane remarks that appear here. Anyhow, Carol, while you may disagree with Mark's idea (as do I for the record) is there really any reason for you to respond by agreeing that he does sound stupid? Are you also going to call him a big stinky face too? I mean I've heard that on the playground from the kids calling each other stupid too so why not? I will be doing a Letter to the Editor shortly on this very topic.
