A Lost Horse - Pioneer Trek Story #1

This story from the Pioneer Trek comes from Ed Jones, who was asked to be the trail boss. This is his story from the Trek about how divine help can come from a complete stranger.

This story comes from Ed Jones, a resident of Lakeside, who was asked to be the trail boss during the trek.  This is his story from the Trek about how divine help can come from a complete stranger:

I was asked to be the Trail Boss and was asked if I could be horseback.  My response was an enthusastic 'yes!'  I ended up borrowing a 17-year old quarter horse mare named "Goody"--my practice rides went well for the most part, except for a surprise 180 degree spin and a resultant shoulder injury in staying on.   After setting up camp on Thursday night, it was time for her to bed down.  As she would not reenter the trailer, I tied her to the trailer instead for the night, per her owner's instructions.

About 20 minutes into this, she suddenly lunged back on the rope/halter, breaking the halter and coming completely free, on the side of Highway S-2 in the moonlight.  She began to travel north on the roadway in the full moonlight, first walking, then trotting.  I alerted Andy Harrison, and she joined in the chase.  My heart sank as she disappeared into the shadows down the road ahead of me.  I was on foot chasing a running horse with a major prayer in my heart that somehow all this would turn out.  I needed an angel!

A car passed by at about 15 minutes into the chase, and I noticed he slowed down up ahead as he came upon her still running along the road.  He guessed that I was part of this, so he circled back and picked me up, then we drove to get ahead of her at about 3 miles out.  We overtook her still trotting on the highway, circled ahead, stopped, waved our arms, and frantically called her name.

As she approached, she began to slow down until she stopped in front of us.  I was able to secure her with a bridle and reins, and began to calm her down.  It took about 45 minutes to walk her back to camp, as my angel "Hank" drove beside me all the way, talking and reassuring us.  Finally, we were able to secure her to the trailer, and she spent the night without further incident.

I consider this to be a 'miracle' and testify there was divine intervention as Hank was truly heaven sent--He thought he was only on his way home to Canebrake, but I know different.  "Angels are around us all the time."
