Dance in the Dust - Pioneer Trek Story #3

A post from one of the youth who attended the pioneer trek.

This post comes from Kristen Baugh. She is in high school and lives in Santee.

My name is Kristen, I live in Santee, and I participated in my church's two-day pioneer trek.

The most fun part of the trip was the dancing at night, it was fun to see how even after a long, tiring day, we could still come together and have fun and laugh.  We learned a few dances and danced in the dust, like the pioneers would have.

The hardest part of the trek, by far, was at the end, when only the women were allowed to pull the handcart up a hill to finish the trek. As much as the boys protested and begged to help, us girls began to pull. The most moving experience was when one of my "brothers" said "Well, if we can't help you physically, we'll help you spiritually" and they began to sing hymns, which made pulling the handcart a little easier.

This trek was a very moving experience and helped me to understand what the pioneers went through to provide me with many opportunities that I have been blessed to experience.
