Free shredding available on Friday, June 21 from East County REALTORS®

The Pacific Southwest Association of REALTORS® (PSAR), a trade group for San Diego-area realtors who serve East County communities, will host a free Shredding Party offering free shredding services from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 21, at the PSAR East County Service Center, 1150 Broadway, El Cajon. PSAR members, their clients and local real estate professionals are invited to bring boxes containing personal and confidential information that will be shredded on the spot at no charge in the parking lot of the PSAR El Cajon office. Paper documents should be removed from binders prior to shredding; however, staples, paperclips, CDs and floppy discs are okay to be shredded. “PSAR members have an important role to serve as the first line of defense in document security and integrity, and we are proud to assist in this effort,” said Jeff Campbell, 2013 PSARA president. “The first rule in preventing identity theft is, if you don’t need it, shred it and we are here to help. Shredding sensitive documents is an excellent way to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft.”

According to the California Department of Real Estate (DRE), a real estate broker shall retain for three years copies of all listings, deposit slips, canceled checks, trust records, and other documents executed by him or her or obtained by him or her in connection with any transactions for which a real estate license is required.
