Indoor Soccer Field Hopes ‘Boll Weevil Arena’ Gets Under Skins

Local soccer players will now be feeling a craving for a burger when they score a goal. One of the soccer arenas at Sportsplex USA Santee has officially been named Boll Weevil Arena.

The ribbon cutting announcing the sponsorship took place Tuesday under the goals emblazoned with the logo of the burger restaurant that returned to Santee this year, Boll Weevil 53.

The new restaurant, which opened in March, is a bit different from the usual Boll Weevil burger joint, with a claim as the restaurant with the most beer options in all of East County. 

The bar sports 53 different bottled and draft beers, with more than 20 local microbrews on tap, including Santee's own Manzanita Brewing Company. And, this location has a more modern feel than the other five location in the county.

Owners of Boll Weevil, members from the Santee Chamber of Commerce, a representative from Senator Joel Anderson’s office, a representative from Assemblyman Brian Jones’ office, City of Santee staff, Miss Teen Santee and staff of Sportsplex USA were present during the ceremony. 

“Being a 'Sportsplex USA Arena Naming Sponsor' exhibits our long term commitment to this city and the realization that the participants and spectators at this venue are exactly the customers who will love and support our restaurant,” said Tom Walker, one of the owners of Boll Weevil 53.
