Petition to Name Santana High School's Football Field
Santee Residents: We have created a petition and are putting together a proposal to present to Santana and the GUHSD. The proposal is to move forward with naming Santana High School's football field: Leon Bender Stadium. We would be naming it after Leon who graduated from SHS in '93. He was an amazing athlete and an even greater person. He went on to play at Washington State where he then signed with the Oakland Raiders in the 2nd round of the NFL draft. Unfortunately, Leon never completely fulfilled his dream due to his unexpected death caused by an epileptic seizure. Leon is deserving of this honor because he truly reflects what Santana stands for, the home of Scholars and Champions. Naming the stadium after Leon would give the youth a positive role model to show them that life is precious, take advantage of every day, chase your dreams and dream big!
