Fireworks Will Fly at Santee Salutes July Fourth Celebration

A day of live music, patriotism, family fun and games, finished off with an awesome fireworks display- that's right, Santee Salutes is coming up soon!

This July Fourth starting at 3:30 p.m. the city comes together at Town Center Park East (550 Park Center Drive) for patriotic festivities, nearly 10,000 are expected to attend and many more eyes around town will turn to the sky for the fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Councilmember Rob McNelis called the fireworks show the "fastest blowing up of $20,000 the city does." Thankfully for the city coffers, Waste Management, the company that takes care of Santee's trash, presented a $37,000 check to city council at the last meeting, to cover the cost of fireworks and other annual city events.

The day will feature live music by the 80z All Stars along with a patriotic ceremony featuring the Helicopter Squadron 462 Color Guard, one of the city's adopted Marine units.

“Each year we try to add new attractions to enhance the experience, but Santee Salutes will always be a family oriented event with a patriotic theme,” said Cherie Meek the city’s special events supervisor.

New rides and attractions this year include a privately owned fire truck, laser tag games, a mini-Ferris wheel, a mechanical bull and mechanical surf board ride and rock wall climbing. Parents can avoid waiting in line at the California Health Network Fun Zone by purchasing tickets in advance  at the Elite Events and Party Rental website.

The music will continue half an hour after the fireworks show so not everyone has to rush home at once and cause traffic problems.

“Instead of everybody rushing off all at once, patrons can stay at the park and listen to some live music while the roads clear out,” Meek said.

Prior to the event, the City of Santee Aquatics Center and Cameron Family YMCA will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The following streets will be limited  to resident traffic during evening hours: Bilteer Drive, Bilteer Court, San Remo Court, San Remo Drive, Conejo Place, Magnolia Park Drive, Cottonwood Avenue, Verde Vista Lane, Day Creek Trail and Leavesly Trail.

Parking at Town Center Community Park West, Sportsplex USA, & City of Santee Aquatics Center/Cameron Family YMCA will cost $5 per car. Preferred Parking is available at the event location, Town Center Community Park East for $15 per car. Continuous free shuttle service will be available from 3:30 to 11 p.m. from the Costco parking lot, where parking is free.
